The Pat McCabe Trophy

2009 Competition

The Pat McCabe Cup is the Glasgow Wheelers competition which everyone stands a chance of winning. This confined club trophy is based on 10 mile time trials and awards points to riders' based on their handicapped times. It is a test of riders ability to better or match their previous personal best times. The tables in the SCU handbook are used to give a handicap allowance based on the riders previous best time. This handicap is then deducted from their actual recorded time to yield a handicap time. The rider with the lowest handicap time wins the points. First place gets 15 points with each subsequent place getting 1 point less down to 15th. Each of the 10 rounds comprises a 10-mile time trial with the best 6 results to count. Remember and get your entries away early. This year, to avoid tight groupings of events we have included the TLI series on the Westferry course. Much closer to home for many riders.

Entry: So what's required for entry? Easy, contact Andy Underwood with your fastest time for a 10 in the last 3 years (preferably before the first event). This will give a starting point for your handicap for the competition. If you haven't got an exact time contact for further information and to work something out.

This years Pat McCabe trophy is set to be a healthy competition, with much interest indicated from the members new and established. This opens the doors for fierce competition resulting in gossip galore about tactics, fitness, and bluffed handicaps. Be sure that all the up to the minute hot gossip in 2009 will be reported on in the GWCC website by the participants.

The events that are included in this years competition are given below, along with some of the Pat McCabe winners in recent years. Remember - get your entry in early for the events and most of all... good luck!

Cancellation event - Big Jims 10 TT, 05/08/2008 (Wed), Cambusbarron Course. This will be used if any of the official McCabe events are cancelled. If any problems with entry to the Galston 10, the substitute event will be - the Magic 10 (Wednesday 17th June on the Cambusbarron Course)

NOTE - YOU the rider are responsible for submission of you Pat McCabe times. To submit times email to THIS address. Your times will be cross checked, so no monkey business!
